In “The Quest for the Spider Sapphire,” Bess was forced by her ex-husband of a loveless marriage of convenience to steal from her Aunt in order to save Nancy and George from the death trap he set for them. Bess’ happy family life doesn’t last long, though, as she was officially kicked out of the family by episode 8 of season 2. Throughout season 2, Bess continued to deal with her new role as a permanent member of the Marvin family after proving herself to her Aunt Diana during the first season. Though, despite the clear difference between the woman we saw in the pilot and the Bess we know now, it still feels like the show hasn’t invested in her in the same ways it has for the other characters, especially by the end of the second season. The Nancy Drew writers have shown her she’s grown a lot in the time that we’ve known her so far. Our introduction to Bess was framed around her lies and the fact that she lifted a really shiny ring off a dead woman. Nancy Drew‘s version of Bess is a self-proclaimed recovering kleptomaniac, member of the Drew Crew, and almost-socialite.
It is obviously too early to determine anything, but The CW should get representation right at least this time around. 'Riverdale' had received a substantial amount of backlash from the asexual community for its decision to not portray Jughead Jones as asexual despite the character being described so. It looks like The CW is portraying her character in a queer light - technically, not the first time that the network has experimented in this way.

In 'The Secret of the Old Morgue', the group gets to know that Tiffany's corpse in being moved out of Horseshoe Bay for a private autopsy.Īfraid that the private autopsy that the Hudsons have planned would absolve Tiffany's husband Ryan (Riley Smith) from the murder, the group tries to retrieve some evidence from the morgue before the body leaves their town.īess and Ace are instructed to block the only way to the morgue with the help of a stranger Lisbeth (guest-starring Katie Findlay). What makes Bess suspicious is not just that, but also the fact that she was in possession of Tiffany's ring. But at the end of the first episode, we see Bess living in a trailer. Nancy thinks Bess is a rich kid away from the city who is currently crashing with her rich aunt in a mansion. In the first episode, Tiffany Hudson (Sinead Curry) was found dead outside the diner that Nancy (Kennedy McMann) and her friends work out of.įollowing the discovery of her body, the group - comprising George (Leah Lewis), Bess (Maddison Jaizani) and Ace (Alex Saxon) - become suspects in the murder because the police think that each of them has a motive of their own.
